Dear Jonathan -- Your mom and dad meant so much to me, and I am truly sorry to hear about your mom's unexpected passing. Every time I enter a theater and hear the orchestra strike up, I recall all the wisdom they shared so many nights at your home around the piano. Etel, I'll be thinking of you on Sunday at the Tonys and raise a glass to your inspired life afterward at Marie's Crisis! You'll always be in my heart!

Some friends and I took acting classes with Mrs. Billig in junior high, and it was really the highlight of our weeks. We loved her humor and advice, and she was one of the best acting teachers I ever had. The Chicagoland area was a much richer place thanks to her, and all our lives richer for having known her.

The Rotary Club of Park Forest will forever miss Etel, member for the past 25 years. Etel brought much personality and spirit to our club that will never be forgotten. Especially as she started our weekly meetings with her beautiful voice singing "God Bless America".

I took a theatre class with Etel years ago, when I was in high school. I wasn't very good, but I loved it, largely because of her - she motivated me to keep trying. She was loads of fun and a great asset to the arts community. I know she'll be missed very much, and her family is in my thoughts.

Although I didn't know Etel Billig, as a long time resident of Park Forest, I saw her around town from time to time and I knew of her. I am a great believer in the arts and the benefit and impact they have on humanity. As a Park Forest resident I feel forever indebted to Etel to have bestowed this great treasure on our community. In her life she truly made a difference. My condolences go out to her family.

Dear Jonathan and family: I am greatly saddened in hearing of the passing of Etel. I was fortunate enough to have worked with her in the Southland Arts Council, and as a local critic for a few years. Her loss will be immeasurable.
