Joyce Arlene Greenwell, age 83, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022 at Shelbina Villa in Shelbina, MO. Joyce was born October 3, 1938 in Hannibal, MO, the daughter of Henry Sherman and Georgia E. (Crystal) Davis. She was united in marriage to George Joseph Greenwell on July 18, 1958 in Shelbina, MO. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2004.
Joyce is survived by five children, Stephen Greenwell (Tammy) of Shelbina, MO, Kelly O’Laughlin (Kent) of Shelbina, MO, Todd Greenwell (Kerri) of Shelbina, MO, Scott Greenwell (Babette) Centennial, CO, and Chesney Ryan (Kevin) of Grain Valley, MO; thirteen grandchildren, Michelle and Kimberly Greenwell, Emily Dobson (Wade), Aaron O’Laughlin (Kailee), Luke O’Laughlin (Taylor), Jana Ford, Lexy and Connor Greenwell, Elijah Joe and Noah Greenwell, Nathaniel, Brenden, and Paige Ryan; and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Greenwell (Bernard) of Shelbina, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Timothy Greenwell.
Joyce was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar Society. Nursing was her passion. She graduated from Barnes Jewish School of Nursing and over the years worked as a registered nurse at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Hannibal Regional Hospital, and Salt River Community Care. Joyce enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, going to her grandchildren’s events, and traveling when she could. Her companion after George died was her beloved dog, Maggie. Maggie was treated like a queen with boiled chicken breast on a bed of rice and treats whenever she wished. She slept under her bed every night.
A Visitation will be held Friday, March 25, 2022 from 9 am to 10:45 am at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Leukemia Unit or Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
