Dennis Baker Obituary

Dennis's service will be broadcast at the following link: https://youtu.be/wPfmKzecMdo

Dennis Ray Baker, 77, of Rigby, ID, returned to his Heavenly home on August 6th, 2021. He was born May, 3rd 1944 in Rigby ID, to Elmer and Beth Baker. He was the oldest of 6 Children. Followed by Julie, Gary, Janet, Sandra, and Carol.  He graduated from Rigby High School in 1962.

After graduation he spent a short time in California working with family plastering swimming pools. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Air Force as a firefighter and served during Vietnam.

He married Shirley Alexander and together they had two children, Todd and Cory.  They later divorced. In 1973 he met and married his eternal companion Rozalee Taylor, and they were sealed in the LDS temple in 1979.  Together they had five children: Ronalee, Matthew, Collin, Jeb, and Chad.

Dennis helped his father install floor coverings and learned the trade, which lead to he and Larry Shuldberg opening D & L Carpets in Rigby, Idaho for over 30 years. They worked hard but never forgot to have fun along the way with this business adventure. He worked a few other jobs over the years, but none gave him the joy and satisfaction of operating a business with his brother-in-law.

He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He served in many capacities, including the Bishopric, Sunday School, primary, and enjoyed working in the young men’s program. In the scouting program where he also served, he found value in helping his and so many other sons achieve their Eagle Scout Awards. At the time of his death, he was serving in the baptistry in the Idaho Falls Temple and as a missionary in the Addiction Recovery Program.  He loved serving and those with whom he served with.

Dennis was an avid outdoorsman. He would do anything that kept him outside particularly if it involved a motor. Riding motorcycles was his favorite. He looked for any opportunity to enjoy the graces of nature. He never had any spare time as he always had something to do. It could be helping a neighbor or friend, it could be tinkering or creating something new in his shop, or it could be doing one more carpet job to provide one more opportunity or experience for his children. His love for others was relentless.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He seldom had a conversation where he didn’t express his affection towards them as they were his greatest joy.

He is survived by his wife Rozalee Baker his children Todd Braddock of Boise; Cory (Lynette) Braddock of Chandler, Arizona; Ronalee (Troy) Williams of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Collin Baker of Ririe, Idaho; Jeb (Jenny) Baker of Boise, Idaho; Chad (Amy) Baker of Pocatello, Idaho. He has been blessed with 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew Adam Baker and his parents.

Services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the South Rigby Stake Center (106 N. 3800 E. Rigby, Idaho 83442). There will be a brief graveside service on August 14, 2021, at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the Rigby Cemetery. My heart breaks for your loss. I was not fortunate to know Dennis as an adult but he sounded like a special person. Uncle Elmer was one of my favorite people, know I would have loved knowing Dennis too. His priority was his family and know you have so many wonderful memories. You will remain in my prayers.

My heart is breaking for your family. Dennis was a true friend and so kind to everyone. We enjoyed the time spent visiting with him as our home teacher and his concern for us. I will miss his text messages checking up on how we were doing. Roze, I hope that you can feel comfort and peace during this time. Prayers for your family❤❤❤

I'm so sorry to hear of Dennis's passing. I was just thinking about the two of you, Rose, and wondering if he finished his project he was working on when I saw you last summer. Always busy on some project or helping someone. I pray you will find comfort and peace in God's beautiful eternal plan that brings our loved ones together again. I know it is that darn missing them until then that is hard. Keep on being the busy little beaver that you always are. God bless you. Laurie Sambrano
