Chauncey Curry Obituary

Chauncey Elliott Curry, age 39, unexpectedly, but in God’s perfect timing, went to rest with the Lord on July 21, 2022, at his home in Whitsett, NC. He was the only child to his beloved mother, Christine Curry, born on May 4, 1983. Chauncey is preceded in death by his grandfather, John Clarence Curry. Chauncey grew up in the Preston community of Martinsville, VA. He was proud of his upbringing there and often reminisced about his childhood and youthful years with his cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was baptized on December 17, 1995, at Mt. Olive East Christian Church, where he served on the Usher Board and sang in the Youth Choir. In addition, Chauncey attended the PDC Camp and Conference camp each summer with Mt. Olive East Christian Church. He graduated from J. H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC in 2001. This foundation of love, faith in God, and education helped to prepare him to attend East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

Chauncey had an infectious laugh and was a jokester by nature. He loved listening to music and attended many concerts - always sharp, decked out in the newest Polo gear from his favorite store, Ralph Lauren and accented with the latest Jordans. He admired old school cars and loved to travel. An avid sport enthusiast: he loved the Duke Blue Devils Men’s basketball team and Coach K; cheered on and attended many Washington Redskins’ games, NBA games and other sporting events.

In October 2008, Chauncey met Jessica Lynn Mills. It did not take long for him to decide “she was the one”. They dated for the next five years and on October 19, 2013, while on a weekend getaway in Massanutten, he asked for Jessica’s hand in marriage. The two were united in holy matrimony on September 27, 2014. Jessica was his “J”, and he was her “Chaunc”. They built an amazing life together traveling to some of their favorite destinations such as California, Mexico, and Disney World in Florida, just to name a few. Chauncey and Jessica were adventurous and had shared goals. They often had conversations about their future and life together. One of their greatest accomplishments was to purchase their new home together. Chauncey was so proud of this as he visited their house almost daily and watched the progress as it was being built. Their home was one of peace and comfort, and while they enjoyed being on the go; they equally loved being home together just hanging out. Chauncey began his career with United Healthcare in August 2012 and was a supervisor at the time of his passing. It was there that many acquaintances became friends, and friends became just like family. Chauncey, or Gutta as he was known to many, was loyal and dependable to his family and friends, his job, and just a cool, chilled laid-back guy. Everyone Chauncey knew will greatly cherish his impact on their lives, either through his love, friendship, mentorship, or his humor. Whereas hearts are broken due to his transition to heaven, we believe that our God makes no mistakes. He will be greatly missed but precious memories will remain in our hearts forever.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jessica Curry (Whitsett, NC), his devoted mother, Christine Curry (Martinsville, VA), his adoring granny, Minnie Ruth Dandridge Curry Martin (Martinsville, VA), his mother and father-in-law, Janet and Joseph Mills (Thaxton, VA), brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Kirsten Mills (Roanoke, VA), his precious niece, Emery Mills; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends who were like brothers and sisters.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:6-7

Chauncey you will be missed dearly he always had this laid back chill personality. Often when I speak about him I will tell folks Chauncey has more Polo than Rapper Young Dro. I believe every single day Chauncey had on a polo from middle school through high school. You could always catch him with something on so fresh and so clean. Rest Up My Boi until we meet again
