Born August 7, 1923 to the late Leona and Clarence Hudon. My Third Grandmother
I can remember Aunt Bernie for as long as I can remember being alive on this Earth. Great-Aunt Bernie to be exact, her infectious laughter and joy always filled a room, as did her poise, caring, and unflappable sense of humor. Having lost my Grandma Theresa at age 9 and my Mimier, Bernie's sister and my maternal grandmother at age 16, I always thought of her as a sort of third Grandma. I remember her laughter from family events, always a ton of fun, as a kid. I remember running into her one summer during college at Uncle Rich's place in Lake Geneva and being amazed by her sophistication and kindness, I remember talking to her on the phone from time to time during my many years abroad in Asia and more recently, and I remember getting to spend some good time with her back in 2011 when I was teaching in Chicago for the summer. I am sad that I did not get to say goodbye, and happy that all of my memories of her are full of happiness.
I think that during her long years she touched and helped so many people and has always been a role model. We will all miss her greatly and remember her example as a life fully and wonderfully lived. Much love Aunt Bernie. Yours, Jack, Joey, Leo, and Doreen.
