James O'CONNOR Obituary

Jim passed away peacefully in bed at his home in Victoria, BC. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jim is predeceased by his parents Francis (Frank) O'Connor and Margaret (Peggy) O'Connor (nee Lyons) as well as his sister Peggy James (Paul). Jim is survived by his sister Francis (Glen), brother David (Mary); son Derek (Kim), daughter Brenda, grandson Cameron, and his loving wife of fifty-five years, Ann O'Connor.

Jim joined the Navy reserves in 1961. He earned degrees in Economics and Business Admin at Uvic. He was posted to HMCS Brunswicker in 1967 where he met his wife Ann. They would raise their two children while being posted to various locations including: HMCS Mckenzie in Victoria, a Logistics Officer in Ottawa, staff college at Greenwich, and Base Supply in Esquimalt. Jim retired from the service in 1993 but as a dedicated worker, he would continue working in Ottawa and later work with his daughter at Lionheart Tax and volunteer with CVITP in Esquimalt.

Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus just as his father was. He was an avid reader with a passion for genealogy, on which he would spend countless hours. An enjoyer of sailing, Jim was a member of the CFSA and sailed in the Vic-Maui race. In retirement he spent many years in his RV camping with family & traveling all over the world with his wife.

Arrangements are under the care of First Memorial (4725 Falaise Dr, Victoria) and a private interment will be arranged at a later date. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Elizabeth's Church (10030 3rd St, Sidney) on October 3 at 1:00 pm, reception to follow. All are welcome.

Dear Ann and family,
It has been close to 40 years since our paths crossed, but reading of Jim´s passing brought back memories of a fine work colleague from our days in Ottawa, and all of us becoming friends.
We have pleasant recollections of your visit with us over Christmas, 1985 in Ramstein, Germany and our stay at your home in Greenwich in the spring of 1986. Then the vagaries of service postings meant going our separate ways going forward.
Our thoughts are with you.

Ann, Cameron and Brenda,

When Cameron told me of Jim's passing I was genuinely saddened. Lana and Brandon were equally saddened and send their deep sympathies. Memories are everything now. I'll always remember Jim as the centre piece, a gentle rock in the lives of your family. Condolences and sincerest sympathies from our family to yours.
