Robert WILKINSON Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bob Wilkinson, a great and generous man beloved by all, especially the love of his life, Lynne; daughter, Patti (Barry); grandchildren, Daniel, Taylor; nieces and nephews, Steve, Sue (Bob), Debbie (Kirk), Mark (Peter), Terrie (Jason); great nephews and niece Matthew, Courtney and Christopher. He was predeceased by his father, Lawrence; mother Thelma; and sister, Helen (Allen). Bob's story is as remarkable as the man himself. He grew up in downtown Toronto, on the "wrong side of the tracks" but made a real name for himself through hard work and his persuasive personality. He worked his way up from the ground floor to the executive floor as a senior sales executive at Peerless Carpets, and then later at End of the Roll. Bob loved people and he and Lynne loved to entertain people. He was a masterful storyteller who had an opinion on just about everything! He had many hobbies from horses and hearts to hockey, baseball, and golf. He enjoyed a good wager on the golf course, and he was very skilled at negotiating strokes. He loved to incessantly tease those around him, and he just loved life and the people in his life. He was generous to a fault and a deeply caring family man. Bob, you may be gone, but you will not be forgotten. May you rest in peace. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life for the family at a later date. Hello Lynne, Janet and I wish you and the family strength at this time of grieving. A favourite memory of Bob was during a Hawaiian trip when we gifted him with a pair of very 'loud' and colourful Hawaiian pants for a laugh, and he wore them to dinner. Rest in peace, Bob. Janet and Rudy Ydenberg

Dear Lynne and family...Kath and I were very saddened to hear of Bob´s passing. We have so many cherished memories from all the trips we took together and though they were business trips, Bob always did his best to make them seem more like family vacations. As for working with Bob, he was a true role model for those that worked with him, be they employees, suppliers or customers. As one of his many suppliers I grew to know Bob as a tough, artful and fair negotiator. Upon first meeting Bob, he could be intimidating, but eventually I grew to know him as a brilliant businessman with a big heart. We share in your loss and will remember him fondly. I had the good fortune to join Peerless Carpets in 1982. And shortly after my arrival I met Bob and quickly learned of his acerbic wit and penetrating questions. I liked immediately. Rest in peace, my friend. And thanks!

It is with deep sadness that I learned of Bob's passing this week. We worked together for many years and he was one of the key people that helped to build McGrath Carpets to be a major fore in the carpet distribution business in Western Canada. I have had very little contact with him recently but I remember his honesty, integrity and
professionalism in the carpet industry.
Quite a legacy.

Dear Lynne and Patti,
I am so sorry to hear about cousin, Bob or "Bobby" as Dad used to call him. I have many fond memories and lots of stories about Bob and I'm so happy we were able to see each other at our little "reunion" in Toronto.
I hope you find comfort and strength in knowing what a kind and generous person he was.

May his soul rest in peace.

With Love from cousin Marcie Hughes, (Uncle Tom's daughter), Toronto, ON

Lynne. Colleen and I offer our sincere condolences.
What a guy. I remember, and often have told others about, Bob's words to you the first day we met....something about no shorts and flip flops on this guy!! Bob was such a kind and caring guy. Loved receiving phone calls from him. Our best, Lynne.

I had the privilege of knowing Bob for Over 40 years. In the beginning as a supplier, then working for him, then as a supplier again when he left Peerless, and as a sometime golf coach. He was a larger than life person who made a big impact on my life. I´m honoured to have been Bob´s friend, and I will miss him a lot.

I enjoyed many years working with Bob at Peerless Carpet Corp. He was always fun to be around and never did it seem he was the Senior VP and your superior, more like a friend and co-worker. The work atmosphere could not have been more pleasant and enjoyable. Bob was the consummate gentleman always caring deeply about his many employees, their families or personal hardships. Bob will be sorely missed but not forgotten. RIP.

It has been a true honour to have known Bob for over the past twenty years. His friendship, sense of humour, generosity, and caring nature were evident on every occasion that he was in your presence.
One special memory: Who do you know who would watch sporting events on TV without any sound?
All our love to Lynne and Bob's beautiful family.
Eternal be Bob's memory.
