CRYSTAL KELL Obituary

On the morning of May 29th, 2024, at the age of 93, Crystal decided it was time to take her final adventure. Mom lived life to the fullest: loved to golf, curl, garden, knit, travel, her flowers, and spending time with her family. Any extra time was devoted to volunteering. Beginning at the age of 14, selling war stamps (raising money for war veterans), up to three weeks prior to her passing, at the reception desk at the 55 Plus Centre.

Crystal received numerous acknowledgements for volunteering, including 50 years with the City of Thunder Bay, to a 30+ year award from the Province of Ontario, for her contribution to the 55 Plus Centre. After losing her husband, Norman at the age of 51, Crystal became very independent, learning to drive, travel, and making tough decisions on her own. Through her life, travelling was always a special pastime. She visited over 50 countries with friends and family; her two favourites being: performing Tai Chi on the Great Wall of China with Peng You and cruising around South America. Crystals' greatest achievements, besides her family were Credit Supervisor with Sears Canada and President at the 55 Plus Centre.

Left to carry on her legacy are: daughter, Sharon (Albert) Otway; grandson, Sean (Allison); son, Blaine (Brook) Kell; grandsons, Dana and Trevor (Tessa); great-grandchildren, Lyvia, Maia, Liam, and Owen; brother, Jack Brooks; as well as nieces and nephews; and special friends, Edna, and Lola.

Predeceased by her husband, Norman, after 28 years of marriage; sister, Betty Thoroski; and parents Garnet and Doris Brooks.

A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at our Regional Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Ward and Moms' amazing nurse MISTY. As per Moms' wishes, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers or donations, Mom would love it if you would take your family or friends, for breakfast or lunch to the 55 Centre, her home away from home.
