With great thanks for a life well-lived, we sadly announce the passing of Bruce Pritchard on October 13, 2024. Bruce was born in Fort William on April 13, 1937, the youngest child of David Findlay Pritchard and Grace Woodside Pritchard. He attended Drew Street School and Selkirk High School in addition to work-related courses at Confederation College.
Bruce worked at the Great Lakes Paper Company from 1955 to 1985 starting as a tallyman, then working on the paper machines and finally as the Public Relations Coordinator. He later started his own public relations and marketing firm after taking on various projects including the administration of the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium's Grand Opening in 1985. He was especially proud of his work as the Project Officer for the Northern Ontario Travel Information Centres' Enhancement Program with the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation where he worked with communities to establish 26 different travel centres and 90 picnic and rest stops throughout Northern Ontario. Before retirement, Bruce was the Economic Development Officer for Nipigon - Red Rock.
Bruce always felt that it was important to be a part of "building a better world". He was very active in his community in volunteering, especially with the Jaycees, St. John's Ambulance, Wesley United Church, The Boys' and Girls' Club of Thunder Bay and The West Thunder Community Centre.
Bruce was a devoted husband, father, Papa and Great-Papa. He enjoyed trips visiting family and friends, but he especially enjoyed spending time at his family camp in Ignace, Ontario. It was because of his love of Ignace that he did some volunteer work with the Friends of White Otter Castle and he was pleased to see its restoration; he even donned the white otter costume for a couple of White Otter Day festivals there!
Bruce was predeceased by his first wife, Caroline Holloway Pritchard (1999), his brother Bob, his sister Connie and his two stepsons Martin Speight and Larry Speight in addition to other close family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Agnes Speight Pritchard, his sister Marilyn Quarterman, his daughter Beverley Ann (Mark) Taylor, his son Thomas Bruce Pritchard, his stepdaughter Andrea Ackewance in addition to many beloved grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will follow in November on a date to be announced. A full obituary will appear online next week. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation Northern Cardiac Fund or Northern Cancer Fund, The Thunder Bay Boys' and Girls' Club or a
Charity of Your Choice.
