Gollinger, James J. 59, April 29, 2014, lifetime resident of the Southwest side of Chicago, of West Elsdon neighborhood, beloved husband of Lucy (nee Hernandez); devoted father of Steven M. Gollinger; loving son of the late Joseph and Elona Gollinger; fond brother of Joseph (Mary) Gollinger, Marie (Tony) Secco and James Joseph (Glenda) Piekarski; dear uncle of David, Brian, and Brandon Piotrowski, Alexandra Gollinger, Christopher and Allison Piekarski; fond nephew of Marianna (Joseph) Dietz; dear brother-in-law and uncle of many, and friend to everyone he met. Proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, U.S. National Guard, U.S. Army Reserves and U.S. Navy Reserves. Member of Clearing Post # 600 American Legion. Served the Chicago Police Department for 34 years as a Detention Aid, working in the 1st & 8th Districts, Juvenile Detention Center, and retiring from the 9th District. Also worked for 22 years as a paper handler for the Chicago Tribune. Resting at CENTRAL CHAPEL, 6158 S. Central Ave., Chicago, on Monday, May 5, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Family and friends to meet on Tuesday, May 6, 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, 2300 W. LeMoyne Ave., Chicago, for Funeral Mass and Military Honors. In keeping with Jim's wishes, following services he will be cremated and his cremains will be scattered at sea. Please Omit Flowers.
