Iwata, Tazuru (Hayashi) Passed away August 13, 2013, in Evanston, IL. Beloved wife of Roy Iwata for 61 years, loving mother of Judy (Stephen) Bundra and Glenn (Susan) Iwata; dear sister of Setsuko, May, Mitzi, Midori, and Kazie, caring grandmother of Katherine (Marc-Olivier), Mark, Christy, Becky, Melissa, and Sarah, loving great-grandmother of Liam, and dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Taz was born in 1925 in Marysville, California, and received her secondary education in Kobe, Japan. For 53 years, Taz and Roy lived in Park Ridge, IL, where Taz raised her family and served as an active community volunteer. Later she worked as a free-lance interpreter and then joined the customer relations department at the Minolta Corporation, where she also helped countless Japanese employees adjust to life in the United States. Taz was a funny, loving, and kind person, who enjoyed feeding people and making everyone laugh. A private service for family members will be held at Three Crowns Park on Sunday, August 25, 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Chicago chapter of the JACL, 5415 N.
