Queen Shackelford Obituary

Shackelford, Queen Esther Beloved wife of Milton Shackelford for 50 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2013. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on March 9, 1945. Queen was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Chicago, IL where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for over 25 years. As an employee of the Chicago Public Schools, she worked as a teacher for 15 years and as counselor for 15 years until her retirement in 2003. Queen was an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Theta Rho Omega Chapter. She was a loving mother of Milton Eric Shackelford (Tammy) of Houston, TX, Cheryl Collins (Derrick) and Yvette Shackelford Abraham of Flossmoor, IL; grandmother of Devyn, Alexis, Derrick, Camerion, Evan Nicole, Christopher, Samuel, and Jordan Brooke; devoted caregiver and daughter of Gertrude Brooks; sister of Bettye Bowen and Linda Tompkins of Memphis, TN; niece of Albert Tuggle (Lillian) and Lillie Bobo of Detroit, MI. Queen also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8301 S. Damen, Chicago, IL 60620. Prepast: 9:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. "Ivy Beyond the Wall" Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m. Arrangements by: Taylor Funeral Home, 63 E. 79th St., Chicago, IL 60619. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. John Baptist Church, 2501 Main St, Little Rock, Arkansas 72206. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by: Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester St, Little Rock, AR 72202. Interment will be Haven of Rest Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Remembering the time of an awesome wife, mother, grandmother, I have so many fond memories of growing up, and we all come to Little Rock, Ark for the summers. We would have such a great summer with family, Queen has always been so loving and caring. I'm going to miss her so much, to Milton Sr. Milton Jr., Cheryl, and Evette, I love you all soooooooooo MUCH!!!. Our prayers are with you always, what a life that Queen had to share with so many who had the pleasure of her company. I thank God that he allowed me to have a small share in her life, I will always cherish that memories. I love you Aunt, cuz, Queen.
