Pollak, Muriel Brandes Of Glencoe, IL and Slinger, WI passed away on March 10, 2012 in Mequon, WI, at the age of 89. Cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Lee Brandes, loving mother of Greg Pollak and Laura Miral, Julie (Pollak) Bandalin Krueger and Keith Pochter, beloved grandmother of Jamie Elissa, Andrew Justin, Rebecca Lee Bandalin and many adored friends that meant the world to her. Born in Chicago, IL, her life was lived with an appreciation for culture, the arts and a strong sense of family values. She was a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and studied at both Stephens College, Columbia, MO and the Art Institute of Chicago. Her working years were spent in sales, marketing and operations aspects of several respected Midwestern firms including Colonial Premier Lighting at the Merchandise Mart and owner of Country Girl, a unique woman's clothing establishment located in Glencoe, IL. After retiring, she tirelessly volunteered at Highland Park Hospital for over 16 years during which she spent her days visiting patients, as a representative of North Shore Congregation Israel, Glencoe, IL, where she was a member for over 60 years. As a girl, she rode horseback through Lincoln Park and studied classical ballet. She continued her affinity for the arts by writing plays for her synagogue and grants in support of the Phyllis Sabold Dance Company. She organized and ran a backgammon program for mature north suburban Chicago singles at a local restaurant. Recent years were spent committed to Torah and Yiddish studies at North Shore Congregation Israel and Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun, River Hills, WI. The family would like to thank the staff at Horizon Hospice at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital, Mequon, WI, for their loving care and support. Memorial service, 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun, 2020 W. Brown Deer Road, River Hills (Milwaukee), WI.
