Mingo, Charles E. June 27, 1941 - February 2, 2012; was born in McComb, MS to Frank L. Mingo, Sr. and Cornelia E. Mingo (nee Dillon). He moved to Chicago, IL as a child. He attended Northern Illinois University where he received a B.S. in Zoology. He was a founding member of the NIU Epsilon Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. In 1966, he married Janet Mingo (nee Bailey-Murray) of Rockford, IL. He earned a Master's in Biology from Chicago State University. He began working as a biology teacher at Harlan High School. Later, he progressed into educational administrative roles as an Assistant Principal at Austin High School and Whitney Young High School, which he co-founded. Additionally, he worked as a District Administrator for the Chicago Public Schools Central District before becoming Principal of Du Sable High School in Chicago, IL and Beckham Middle School in Gary, IN. During his career, he won numerous awards including the prestigious Miliken Award for Excellence in Education in 1993. He leaves behind wife Janet, and children Jennifer, Nathalie, Jeffery, and Dana. He is survived by his brother Clifton "Tip" Mingo, sister-in-law Suziet Mingo of Matteson, Illinois, two aunts, his mother-in-law, many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank L. Mingo, Jr., and sister-in-law Sheila Mingo. A memorial service will be held at New Faith Baptist Church, 25 So. Central Ave, Matteson IL 60443 on February 9th, 2012, 10 AM.
