Oregon Community College Shooting Victims

Obituary

Preliminary information indicates 9 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a shooting at Oregon's Umpqua Community College on Thursday, said Oregon State Police spokesman Bill Fugate, according to CNN and NBC News.

The reports suggest the shooter has been detained, he said. Earlier, authorities told CNN they were responding to reports of an active shooter at the Roseburg college campus.

Roseburg is a city of about 22,000 people located about 70 miles south of Eugene, Oregon, and some 180 miles south of Portland.

Umpqua Community College has about 3,000 students. Its website was down Thursday, and a phone message left at the school wasn't immediately returned.

House Speaker John Boehner tweeted, "Prayers for the victims, families, students, & faculty at Umpqua Community College, & the community of Roseburg, Oregon."
