Back in late 1943 or early 1944 when I was a second-grader at St. James School at Fullerton and Menard, I went home from school one day and announced to my parents that they had to purchase a piano because I had signed up to take piano lessons from Sister Alphonsetta. They did and I had four wonderful years of instruction (until we moved and I changed schools). I still remember the first piece Sister taught me, "Robin in the Cherry Tree, Sing a Pretty Song to Me" and I recently taught it to my 6-year-old grandson. I remember those years with Sister Alphonsetta fondly. She gave me a good start in piano and taught me to love music. I'm sure she is now part of a heavenly music group! May she rest in peace.

My condolences to Sister Alphonsetta's loved ones and her fellow Felician sisters.
Sister Alphonsetta was my choir teacher when I attended Felician College (in Chicago) years ago. She was always pleasant and always interested in her students. She introduced me to the art of "playing the bells" and to singing my part of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah in harmony. I know the bells of Heaven are ringing for her now.
Rest in peace, Sister Alphonsetta. Thank you for being such a kind and dedicated teacher to so many.
