It is aproppriate to remember a person on his or her yahrzeit, the anniversary of his/her demise. Lew, my first mentor in the parctice of law, was a special individual, not only to me, but to all with whom he interacted. May his soul be bound in the bounds of life forever.

In 1966, Lew gave me my first law job and taught me much. I think about him often. "

Lew and I attended Harris School between Clark Street and Lincoln Park in the early and middle 1940s. He was a couple of years older. I was fascinated by his steady and cool demeanor especially when he played guard on our basketball team. Although we had a very small squad with few good players, but his ability to create plays still sticks in my mind. He was not a big man, quite slender with narrow hips, but his broad shoulders and commanding presence made a permanent impression on my young mind..
My peak memory was his ability calmly hold the ball, fake it back and forth until the opposing player made his move. Then like a flash Lew would drive to the basket and make two points as the defenders stood flat-footed. Although I have not followed Lew's illustrious career I can only imagine that his ability to control the game of basketball stood him in good stead in the game of business and philantropy.

I first met Lew early in my career when I was President of the Landmarks Preservation Council, advocating for the preservation of landmarks in the North Loop Redevelopment. He was head of a larger coalition of civic organizations that sought a voice in the redevelopment. Lew taught me the stakeholders, how decisions were made and how to have an impact on those decisions. It was a lesson that has served me well throughout my career. I am so grateful for his guidance.

Lew was instrumental in guiding our teleconferencing company as a shareholder and Chairman of the Board through a growth period and culminating in the sale to MCI in 1995.
Lew was a gentleman in every sense.

Lew was one of the greatest people that we have ever known - smart, funny, gracious, savvy, kind. To be together with Susan and Lew was a delight. His memory will always be a blessing to his family and to all of us who were fortunate enough to know him.
