Baker, Joan Marilyn 81, of Cape Coral,passed away on January 18, 2012. She was born in Chicago, IL to her parents Leo and Hilda Cain. Joan married her late husband Robert E. Baker in 1948. Joan resided in Chicago for many years until her move to Cape Coral in 1987. She is known as "The General" by her family and friends because of her strength and perseverance. She leaves us fond memories of her humor, laughter, and life lessons which she guided us through our life journeys. Though our mom is not physically with us today, she will always be in our hearts. As we say farewell to her, please make a toast with a "Half!" Survivors include her children; Julie (Bob) Dobski, Bloomington, IL. William Baker, Cape Coral, Jill (Tom) Lensegrav, Chicago, IL, Joy Baker, Cape Coral, Daniel Baker, Chicago, and Roger (Shawn) Baker, Cape Coral; ten grandchildren Craig (Anna), Brian (Mona), Steven, Jimmy, Laura, Kyle, Kevin, Erin (Derrick) Williams, Jennifer, and Heather; 6 Great grandchildren and one sister Audrey Yacullo, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, two sons Robert and Thomas and her sister Nancy Karich. Funeral Services will be conducted 3:00 PM Saturday January 21, 2012 at the Fuller Metz Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 3:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House of S.W. Florida, 16100 Roserush Ct., Ft. Myers, FL 33908, Baby Fold at 108 E. Joan and Bob were our friends for many years. We enjoyed our visits and shared many a "half". She was strong, funny and a force to be reckoned with! We will miss her.
