Retired in 1994 after a 27 year career as a Firefighter for the City of Chicago Fire Department, where he served as a Department Photographer as well as with the Fireboat Squad. U.S. Navy Veteran. Founding member of the Spaghetti O's. Husband for 57 years of Joan (nee Carli); father of Doris Bauer-Schrementi and Carl (Cynthia) Bauer; grandfather of Gino and Max Schrementi, Jason and Joseph Volk; great-grandfather of Kaitlyn Volk; son of the late Madeline and Elmer W. Bauer Sr.; brother of the late Doris Marie and Charles Schneider; brother-in-law of Frank (Kathy) and Gerald (Diane) Carli; beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews, and dear friend of many. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (U.S. Rt. 30, 3 blks E. of Western Ave.), Chicago Heights on Thursday, March 21st from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services Friday 10:00 AM. Elmer, there are so many good memories of the time we spent together, but the one I'm most fond of is the fishing trip you and Carl took me on as a young boy.. I wish I hadn't gotten sick half way through it but the good memory lives on with me nonetheless. Thank you for treating me like your grandson and god bless those who survive you. I know we are jealous of your new home and will enjoy it with you someday.
