Dear Brandon: I am so sorry to hear that you lost both of your parents recently. It is never easy to lose those you love and I know there will be times when people, places and things will evoke your memories of them and get sad. However, remember that they loved you and would not want you to be sad thinking of them. So smile whenever you can even if it might make you look weird to others smiling at a bottle of their favorite olive oil or your mom´s favorite soap. :-)

Take care, Pai-Pai Bronson

Time does fly and in a blink of the eye, Darryl has been gone for 11 years. Needless to say, we miss him dearly.

We now have a 3 year old granddaughter who is intelligent, kind, generous and most of all quite funny much like him. We will have another grandchild shortly and we look forward to his/her arrival. We often wished that Darryl was here and how much he would have loved and enjoyed his grandkids as I have and how much they would have loved and enjoyed him as I have.

Thank you to all who still remember him. My best to all of you. Much love, Pai-Pai

Dear friends, hard to imaging it´s been 10 years since we lost him. Time flies, I now have a 2 year old grandchild who at certain angle reminds me of Darryl. She is as bright as him and has a great sense of humor and I often wished he is here to share my joy and delight with our grandchild. Most of all, he would be so very proud of the mother Ariel has become. We miss him. My very best, Pai-Pai

Pai-Pai- Thinking fondly of Darryl as well as Corrine and Aunt Jane and Uncle Bob. All of us Weinsoffs were together for Passover a few years ago and wondered why we had never heard back from Uncle Bob or Aunt Jane via letters and emails we had sent over the last 10 years. We were shocked to see that both Darryl and Corinne had passed (as well as Uncle Bob and Aunt Jane). Although I haven't seen you since I was in my 20's (I'm 61 now) I still think of all of your family. I remember wrestling with Darryl and Corrine when I was a kid visiting Illinois. My mom (Uncle Bob's sister) would have been 91 now, but she died at 59 years old. So sad to lose so much of our family at such young ages. Hoping you and Ariel and family are well. Much love from your California relatives, Sue Weinsoff-Hendricks...

Hi Pai-Pai

I have only just now learned about Darryl's passing and am so sorry to have the news.

Darryl and I were close friends during his time in St Louis many many years ago! But the vicissitudes of life were to separate us as the years passed. I am regretting that now.

I am writing to you from the South of France where I live half the time these days (otherwise, home has been Australia since 1992).
On this cold winter's night in front of the fire, for some reason, I thought of Darryl and decided to search the 'net to see if I could find a way to contact him. Only to be sad to discover that he has gone. Sad, but I have also found it heart-warming to read all the tributes. He was a special friend and human being way back when, and obviously, remained his beautiful, loving self until his untimely end.

Beautiful photos. His smile, the light in his eyes, brings back the memories of the times we shared...way back when.

Would love to get in touch with you personally, but will leave that to you, of course.

With warm regards,

Kim

Hello Pai- Pai, I can't thank Dr. Bronson enough for all that he did for me in my residency and even for many years later. He inspired me in dermatology, was the greatest chairman and teacher any resident could have and he encouraged me to pursue a fellowship in dermatopathology. He believed in me and for that I was so lucky for the opportunity he gave me. As the anniversary of my own fathers passing on 8/31/1997 is approaching also a great physician I feel so appreciative of him as my dad also to short a time and inspiring me to go into medicine.I hope you are a grandmother and Ariel is doing well. I wish you both the best.

My Condolences to Pai Pai and Family. I found out today from a friend that Dr. Darryl Bronson passed away almost 4 years ago. It's because I moved to Texas. Darryl was a good friend of mine and I enjoy his short time of life on earth playing golf every Sunday. He is a very generous and kind person always willing to help. He will be missed.

I was a long-time patient of Dr. Bronson's. Even though it has been several years I decided to look this up because yesterday my 15 year-old son got his first job as a counselor at a golf camp. Dr. Bronson and I spoke often of our love of golf and at my last visit he encouraged me to take my son and brother to Pebble, which we did. I just wanted to let his family know that he is remembered and loved and he and you are still in our prayers. Craig Rosenberg

Dear Pai-Pai, I just received an email with another legacy entry and saw the photos of Dr. Bronson in France and Ireland, of you and Ariel. What a beautiful family! I saw names of familiar former residents Dr. Sabini and Dr. Douchy and still have great memories of dermatology residency at Cook County Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Bronson. I still think of him often, his wisdom and remember what he taught me and all of us from 1994-7. I thank him so much for my career in dermatology and dermatopathology. He stood by me through residency and fellowship and years later. Dr. Bronson and Dr. Ackerman both mentored me and provided me the foundation for my future in dermatology. Dr. William Shellow, my colleague at the VA in Los Angeles also knew Dr. Bronson and remembers him fondly from Noah Worcester Dermatological Society. I hope you and Ariel are doing well and remaining strong. I will always keep the memory of Dr. Bronson alive and often share memories of him with residents I currently work with in Los Angeles at the VA Medical Center. Dr. Bronson passed away I believe on 8/31/12, coincidentally the same date as my father in 1997( he passed on same day as Princess Diana). Sorry if the date is wrong but I know it was over Labor Day weekend as this is the anniversary of my father's passing. The yahrzeit in Jewish faith is a tradition that honors the memory of our deceased loved ones annually by lighting a candle and reciting the Kaddish on the Hebrew date of the relatives passing. I light a candle every year for my father Dr. Ira Diamond. I also think of you Darryl Bronson. Thank you for keeping the legacy book open for all the lives he touched.

To all my husband's patients, friends, colleagues and most importantly his residents whom he valued while he was alive and now I because in you his passion for medicine lives: thank you.

We miss him each and every day. A year ago, all we felt were pain and sadness. Today, near the anniversary of his death, I am able to share the following wisdom my sister, Mayling and brother-in-law, Zev , wrote to us. It is by Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis:

Fear - not of death or dying, but of not having lived.
Fear - not of suffering, but of suffering for no cause.
Fear - not of extinction of life, but of having left no trace upon the earth.
Take heart - Make this a life not lived in vain.
Take heart - Make this a life not lived for naught.

For Those Beloved Who Survive Me.
Mourn me not with tears, ashes, or sackcloth.
Nor dwell in darkness, sadness, or remorse.
Remember that I love you, and wish for you a life of song.
You can choose, you can act, you can transform the world.
My immortality is bound up with God's eternity, with God's justice, truth, and righteousness.
Honor me with laughter and with goodness.
With these, the better part of me lives on beyond the grave.

Darryl in his short life, had lived. He had made a difference in so many lives. He was a good golfer, a great husband, an exceptional father, and a truly caring physician and teacher.

Much love,

Pai-Pai

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Darryl Bronson. Darryl was chief of dermatology at Cook County Hospital for much of my dermatology residency training there. He was a brilliant physician and devoted teacher. Darryl was uncompromising in the educational goals he set for his residents. My sincere condolences to Darryl's family. This is a great loss for his family, friends, students, patients, and to the field of dermatology.

Dear Dr. Bronson,I have just learned of your passing and I am deeply saddened with tears. Since having left Highland Park, IL, back in 1997, I have always been wanting to work again for just one physician who might compare as to the wonderful person, employer and physician you were. I recently came upon the possibility with a plastic surgeon and wanted to update my resume to expound on the physician you were and not just some ordinary doctor that I worked for. So, I was searching online this morning to check in on you and to see if you were still practicing and where if in Highland Park, and I continued to search and read, and I came across the sad news of your passing. I am so honored and was blessed to have worked with you in your Highland Park office as a Registered Nurse, along with Mary Jane, Elsie, and Virginia. I have such fond memories of you and the wonderful person and physician of the qualities you were. I am very greatful to you, taking me in as a newbie RN, and that I could learn from the excellent teacher that you were, always giving and shaing of your great knowledge. Working with you at your side in patient care was also rewarding to me of the true person you were personally and professionally. I will always remember who you were, and I am going to believe that I will work for one physician again who will have at least some qualities that you were. You left big shoes to fill! Thank you for being all that you were to me and all the lives you touched. I have always remembered your smile and having to look up to you, and now knowing that I will continue to look up and see you smiling as now your spirit is above me. Your qualities of your spirit will always be remembered. Renita Epple, RN, Phoenix, Arizona.

My Dad knew Dr. Bronson when he was a child and I had him as my Dermatologist. I went there yesterday and it wasn't the same without him there, but saw his awards and accomplishments and the wall and said a prayer. Both him and his family will stay in my prayers. The office is just as great and I know he would be happy knowing my alopecia is getting treated still. Seeing all his accomplishments really helps me set goals and makes him my role model

My heartfelt condolences to Darryl's family. I was one of the many dermatology residents he trained at Cook County Hospital. He not only gave us all a wonderful dermatology education, but also taught us how to be kind, patient, friendly and respectful in our work, because he was all those things to everyone he ever met. Then I was fortunate enough to continue my career not too far away from his private practice . . . and so we continued to be colleagues. I loved seeing him at local meetings as a colleague - he always would stop in his tracks (as he would do for anyone) to say a friendly greeting - seemed genuinely happy to see me. He was a man of much knowledge and importance, but he always made me (and so many others) feel so knowledgeable and important. He had a warm, genuine smile, and never said an unkind word about anybody.

Just the other day, I saw a patient of Darryl's whose beloved dermatologist had just passed away. I was afraid to ask who the dermatologist was - I loved learning from Darryl and being a colleague of Darryl, but this is not what was supposed to happen. As it turned out, this gentleman and I ended up spending a good part of his visit sharing our fond memories of Darryl - both trying to remember if we ever thanked him for all that he had given us.

If I didn't thank Darryl, let me at least thank you, Pai-Pai and Ariel, for sharing Darryl with us residents. I know we took a lot of his time. Just know that whenever he would talk about you two, that ear-to-ear smile would appear on his face. Ariel, I know you must have the same kindness in you that your dad had (and certainly the same wonderful smile) - continue sharing that in his honor.

So sad to learn of Darryl's passing. I go back to Highland Park H.S. golf team days with him with fond memories. When I was referred to Doc for medical reasons we reconnected. Twice a year, a routine examination turned into a golf clinic as that was the only subject discussed. We began a yearly challenge match that we called the Omelet Open where we'd get up at the crack of dawn and play for who bought breakfast. The competition was fierce but all in good fun. I knew something wasn't right when we couldn't connect this summer. I will miss the fun we had and the comfort level I felt that I was being treated by the very best.

I can only say that as he treated him, I grew to have a great respect and admiration for him, not just because of his knowledge but also his manner. May his soul rest in peace

Dr. Bronson will live on in all his teachings to his many students. I will be forever indebted to him, and I cherish all the time he spent with us as a mentor and friend. I've uploaded a photo of our dinner at the Elysian last spring. Howard and I will have Pei-Pei and Ariel in our thought and prayers.

Darryl & Pei Pei were my garage tenants in Lake View as young couple when Ariel was a child.

Darryl treated me pro bono for years because we had become friendly when they rented my garage. I asked him to charge me many times. He never did, even when I was on Medicare.

With sadness for your family.

Dear Bronson Family, no words will take away the pain of the loss of such a wonderful husband, father, brother and son but try to take some solace in knowing how respected, revered, appreciated and loved he was by so many. While his golf trip to Ireland this past June was a struggle, he perservered and played 9 rounds in a row. The 7 guys with him were impressed with his will and strength of mind. He was a true mensch and will be missed.

It was a shock hearing the news. Such a wonderful man. And without question the best dermatologist I ever encountered. Our time with Mark at County was among the most enjoyable of my career. Will miss you. Condolences to Pai Pai, Ariel and the family.

I am stunned to hear of Darryl's passing. I clearly remember my interview with Darryl for a residency position and feeling a warmth and genuine nature from him that I had not experienced elsewhere. It was a dream to be accepted to Cook County Hospital's dermatology training program and train under his guidance for three years. I owe my career to him. I wish I had the chance to thank him personally again, but that will have to wait now. I hope the Bronson family finds peace in his passing and adjusts to the large hole in their lives. Thanks Darryl. You will be missed.
