Lentz, Charles William age 83, WWII Veteran and Retired Commander from the Great Lakes Naval Base passed away on Wednesday, August 8 in the early evening at Brentwood North Healthcare Center Riverwoods, IL. Charles was born in St. Paul, MN and moved to Evanston, IL with his mother Helen in the late 1930's. He graduated from Evanston Township High School and was then drafted into the Army for WWII. After the war he graduated from Lawrence University, WI with a Bachelors Degree in Business and entered the Navy Reserves as an Officer. Charles practiced the Navy core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment in everyday life. While in the Navy Reserves he earned an MBA at the Wharton School of Business, PA. He worked for 35 years at the Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago, IL ending his career as a Sr. Vice President in the Commercial Real Estate Division. He was a part time faculty member of Northwestern University where he taught finance classes. Charles became a Master Mason on October 4, 1955 and received his Gold Card emblematic of his achievement of 50 years' membership in the fraternity in 2005 from the Evans Lodge No. 524 Evanston, IL. He was married to Althea H. Lentz, his loving wife of 47 years, who preceded him in death. They lived in their home for over 30 years in Wilmette. Charles is survived by his two loving children Janet Lentz-Nichols of Long Grove, IL and Lawrence W. Lentz of Mundelein, IL who is currently on active duty in the Middle East. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, August 12th at Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park, IL. A military Color Guard will be preformed. Interment private.
