I was a friend of Chantal while she was at John Carroll University, and unfortunately, we did not stay in touch after leaving. I have thought of her often, as she brought so much to my experiences at school and I always felt so very lucky to have known her. Despite the distance in time, I feel a deep sadness as I stumbled upon this late and horrible information. I am so sorry for your loss of this wonderful girl. Dawn Anderson, Cleveland, Ohio.

To the Burke Family,

I was sadden to hear about Chantal's death. I attended grammar school and high school with Chantal. She was a beautiful person as well as a gifted artist. The world is a little colder without her warm spirit. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Burke, Marty, Peter, Kara, Matthew, Daniel and Margot, I was completely overwhelmed to hear about Chantal. I know she had been suffering for some time and yet my memory of her is void of any pain. One of my favorite photos is of her sitting on our living room sofa, in attendance with Kara at one of my birthday parties, looking absolutely radiant in her dress. The look on her face indicated she might rather be some place else (!) but she looked so beautiful and I was delighted to have Kara's big sis at my bash. In many ways, Chantal was the girl I looked up to most while I was growing up. She was dynamic, funny, fashionable (always), creative, and despite her seniority, was always nice to me. She will forever live on in my memory as my friend. Love to all of you, Sarah

Dear Julie, Ed and Family:

I was so saddened when Sarah phoned with the news of Chantal's passing. So many mornings I watched her bouncing down the side steps of your home, a huge smile on her pretty face as I stood at my sink.

I know that your family and friends will bring you much comfort during this difficult time.

Sincerely, Susan

I was fortunate enough to have spoken with Chantal just a couple of weeks ago when we ran into each other in our neighborhood. Although we hadn't really talked in many years, it was a real pleasure to spend time with her. We know from our faith that she is now in a better, more peaceful place. My prayers are with the Burke family.

Dear Julie & Ed:

The entire Waters family is saddened by the death of Chantal. We recall many fond memories of her playing the guitar at a home Mass, during one of Jean's slumber parties and again at a Girl Scout outing in Palos. How sweet! Please be assured she and your family will be remembered in our daily prayers. May God grant you all peace, knowing Chantal is in a better place. Fondly,

My prayers and thoughts go out to the Burke clan. I had a very nice chat with Chantal in the springtime at St. Clements Church. She was very much looking forward to upcoming family weddings, births, etc. Her family was very important to her. May God bless her as she is at peace.

To the Burke Family,

I'm terribly sorry for everyone and I'm filled with sorrow about the loss of my classmate and dear friend. I started kindergarten with Chantal and will always have the fondest memories of her. I'll never forget how easy it was to make her laugh and smile. The phone calls and e-mails from her many friends all over the country are spreading like wildfire and we all share the pain. We will all miss her badly.
