WWII U.S. Navy veteran who served honorably and courageously on the CL 62 USS Birmingham,l where he was wounded and earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and 7 Battle Ribbons. Beloved husband of the late Irene (nee Dziekan); Loving father of Michaeline (Gerald) Sokolowski, Alan, James (Denyse), Edward (Jeanne) and the late Martin (Phyllis); Devoted grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 10; Fond brother of Jane Cholewa, and the late Julia (late Joseph) Trela, late Henry (late Mildred) and the late Edward (late Dolores); Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Devoted and faithful member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Vittum Park Civic League, and Commonwealth Edison American Legion Post #0118. Funeral Thursday, 9:15 a.m. from the Richard-Midway Funeral Home 5749 Archer Ave. (corner of Lorel) to Our Lady of the Snows Church for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. We have lost a true American Hero, a loving spouse, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Yet I am sure that when he arrived at Heaven's gate he was greeted with shouts of joy by those who had gone before him.
