Devens Ph.D., Maria 46, passed away at home in Chicago on April 10th after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. Maria was the beloved daughter of Robert and Mary Louise Devens (nee Mau); loving sister of Robert Paul (Sandra Frellsen) and Jennifer Ann Devens (Jon Heimann); devoted aunt of Sophie and Alex Heimann and Paul and Nina Devens; cherished granddaughter of the late Virginia Mau; dearest niece of Pat (the late Edward) Scoby, Joseph (Sheila) Mau, John Mau, Rita (John) Kula and Rosemary (the late Frank) Stritch; fond cousin of many and preceded in death by several other aunts and uncles. Educated at the University of Illinois Chicago and Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Devens was an Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Family Medicine at UIC. During the course of her productive career as a clinical psychologist, she worked in a variety of academic and clinical settings, ranging from individual psychotherapy to medical student education. In her energetic involvement with the American Balint Society, Maria dedicated herself to improving relationships between doctors and patients and to developing more robust support networks for physicians. Visitation Saturday, April 13th, 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon at Church of the Ascension, 1133 N. LaSalle Blvd. and Elm St., Chicago. Interment private.
