Grossley, Mamie Blumenberg Mrs. Mamie Blumenberg Grossley was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, on August 13, 1915 to Mr. Sam Blumenberg and Mrs. Dora McCoy Blumenberg. Mamie was born a leader. As she grew up her parents readily observed prominent characteristics that molded her life. Mamie was a faithful and long-time member of St. Mary African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as a Trustee and President of the Women's Missionary Society. Mamie held an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Life. Mamie served as delegate to the Connectional Quadrennial Convention since 1960. In the Fourth Episcopal District she held the office of 2nd Vice President, Chairperson of Promotion and Education, Corresponding Secretary of Camp Baber Boosters Organization. Mamie was a life member of the Connectional Women's Missionary Society. She held several offices on the Connectional level of the WMS, including the Constitution and By-Laws Committee of the Women's Missionary Society. Mamie was a member of the Tau Gamma Delta Sorority Inc. for 56 years. She gave superior service on the local and national levels. National offices held in the Sorority: National Editor-in-Chief. The Star News Review (published three times a year by Tau Gamma Delta Sorority, Inc.); the National Chaplain; National Historian 2000-2004; Member of the Board of Directors (3 years); National Chair, 1st Memorial Book, TGD. She also served a 6-year term on the Supreme Directorates of Tau Gamma Delta Sorority, Inc. These experiences opened up new horizons for Mamie, and she became interested in library work and pursued a degree in Library Science from Northwestern University. This was her calling her desired vocation. She enjoyed her employment with the Chicago Public Library System, retiring in 1990 with 35 years of praiseworthy service. Mrs. Mamie Blumenberg Grossley transitioned from this life on Sunday, January 19, 2014. She leaves to cherish her memories one brother, Jasper (Vera); two sisters-in-law, Mabel Blumenberg, Doris Blumenberg; host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, best friends, Sorority Sisters, Church Family and a host of others. The Celebration of Life Worship for Mrs. Mamie Blumenberg Grossley will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church, 9256 South Lafayette Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60620. The Family Hour is at 12:00 noon and the Celebration Worship begins at 12:45 p.m.
