Masako Caswell Obituary

Caswell, Masako H. (nee Horie) Of Des Plaines, IL, passed away at Lutheran General Hospital surrounded by her family, husband, Frederick; son, David, with his girlfriend, Sue Shanahan; daughters, Tammie and Millissa, and her husband, son-in-law, Dicky Nixon on Wednesday April 4, 2018. She fought a courageous and difficult battle of esophageal cancer. Her passing was due to complications of the cancer. She was 87 years old. Masako was born on January 28, 1931, in Koenji, Tokyo, Japan. First daughter of Ryozou and Kyoko Horie and eldest sister to Toshiko and Yoshitaka. Masako met Frederick who was a U.S. Air Force airmen stationed in Tachikawa U.S. Air Force Base. They married in 1959. They moved to Kansas for a brief time, and returned to Tokyo, Japan, where Tammie and David were born (1963 and 1965). The family moved to Indiana, where Millissa was born (1967). In 1970, the family moved to Des Plaines, IL. Masako lived a life devoted to her family, enjoying trips to Southern Indiana to spend holidays with the Caswell family, loving sister-in-law late Dorothy Kuykendall, and late husband Earl and sister-in-law, Phyllis, and numerous other family members. She enjoyed returning to Tokyo, Japan to spend time with her sister, Toshiko and late brother-in-law, Tadashi Onogi, her nieces Junko and Atsuko, and nephew Shigeru, and his wife Miyuki, and daughters Sana and Saya, and her late brother Yoshitaka and sister-in-law, Kikko, and nieces, Yukiko and Yuko, and her very special niece, Kyomi, daughter of Junko and Hotaka Takeda. Kyomi often traveled to the U.S. to visit with Masako. She was devoted to her grandchildren, Natalie and Dylan Caswell, and Jessica and Christine Graves. She was a devoted Chicago sports fan, especially the Cubs, and enjoyed music. Masako lived a selfless and generous life showing her love and devotion. She is missed by all those she touched. A private service will be held at River Woods Funeral Chapel, in Des Plaines, on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

I am very saddened to learn of Masako's passing. I do relate to your anguish because I lost my mom and my brother to cancer. Please accept my sincerest condolences and please be encouraged to know that everything she was, everything she gave and all who's hearts she touched will be remembered. (Matthew 10:29-31, 22:31,32)
