Alban Hrebic Obituary

Hrebic, Rev. Alban, O.S.B. Monk of St. Procopius Abbey, Lisle IL, passed away on September 10, 2009, in Chaivi, Taiwan where he was laid to rest at the age of 82. Born and raised in the Back of the Yards and St. Michael the Archangel Slovak Parish, he was the beloved son of the late Anna and Valentine Hrebic, dearest brother of Josephine (late Walter), Joseph (late Florence), and eight deceased brothers and sisters, cherished in-laws, and uncle to many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Benedictine Monks for over 57 years. Ordained in 1952, he studied with the Chicago Conservatory of Music and received a Masters Degree in Music in 1954. He incorporated this talent throughout the rest of his life. He was awarded the College's Distinguished Educator Award in 1971 and an Honorary Doctorate of Music in 1978. He then requested to do missionary work at the Abbey's Priory in Taiwan. He became the Prior and proceeded with his music and missionary work there where he was truly loved by the people. A Memorial Mass of the Resurrection was held on October 9th at St. Procopius Abbey. Any memorials may be sent to the Abbey, 5601 College Rd., Lisle, IL 60532. Kubina-Tybor Directors, 773-523-2191
