Phelan, Michael D. Age 60, of Los Angeles, CA, formerly of the Beverly Neighborhood, Born into Eternal Life on November 30, 2017. Proud "Daddy Mike" to Brittany and Matthew (Ashley) Phelan; beloved friend of their mother, Gina (Tom) Etheridge; loving grandfather to Drake Munoz, Jayden, Peyton, and Mattelen Phelan; beloved son of Catherine (nee Higgins) and the late Joseph T. Phelan; dear eldest brother of David, John, Thomas, Joseph, James, Catherine (Mark) Hankins, Mary (Tim) Monday and William Phelan; fond uncle of Maggie, Brendan, Daniel, Caroline, Laura, Holly, Annalise, Allison, Olivia, Emily, Abby, Nathan and Ella; beloved nephew of Anne (the late Don) Massaro, Mary (Richard) Moreau, and the late Rev. Murray Phelan, O'Carm, and Sr. Eleanor Phelan, R.S.M. Alumnus of Christ the King Grammar School (1971), Mendel Catholic H.S. (1975) and attended New Mexico State University where he played football on an athletic scholarship. Mike was a gifted salesman, who had the ability to quickly develop a congenial trust with clients. He ended his career as a sales manager at Santa Monica Audi. Michael was a friend of Bill W. and celebrated sobriety for over 25 years. He was a much loved friend of fellow sojourners on the road to recovery. Michael had a special devotion to his family, especially his disabled brother Johnny. Mike will be deeply missed by John and all his family and friends who knew and loved him. Family and friends will gather at Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton Ave., Chicago, IL on Saturday, December 9, 2017 for visitation 9:30-10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials to Esperanza Community Services (Residence of John Phelan), 520 N. Marshfield Ave., Chicago, IL 60622 are most appreciated.
