Barraza, Esteban V. - Berwyn
Barraza, Esteban V. 98 years old, of Summit, IL, departed to his eternal life on Thursday, July 14, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Antonia; his father, Pascual; brother, Roberto; sister, Guadalupe; and grandson, Jose Manuel. His religious affiliations stem from early childhood and into his late years of life accepting our Heavenly Father while a member of the The Seventh-day Adventist Church. He attributed his life longevity to our Savior with whom he had complete faith and trust. He was born in Canatlan, Durango, Mexico and lived his earlier years with his family's maternal side. He met and married Antonia Chavez in 1948. He relocated to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, in the late 1950's. In 1960, he migrated to the US in search of a better life and came to Gary, IN. He was a dedicated employee of the EJ&E Railroad until his retirement in 1984. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and good provider which were always first and foremost important on his priority list. He was a most selfless and compassionate man who always extended a helping hand to family members, friends, acquaintances, even strangers. When his children became adults, he and Antonia relocated to Chicago, IL. In 1986, he moved to Houston, TX to be near his younger daughters. His loving wife of 56 years, Antonia, passed in September 2004. He returned to the Chicago area and settled in Summit, IL until the tragic incident that ultimately took his life. Esteban is survived by his siblings, Vicente, Leonardo, Pascual, Armando; sisters, Seferina and Juana; his children, Josefina, Manuela, Maria Elvia, Jose Luis, Bernice and Steve Pedro; he leaves to cherish his memories 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a host of friends and good neighbors. He is described as a righteous, self-taught, wise man. He would have celebrated his 100th birthday in a year and half. Although not formerly educated, he possessed all the qualities of a true gentleman. He acquired a strong set of moral values which he lived by and continuously instilled in all family members. His legacy will forever be remembered, cherished, and truly missed by all his loving family. His daughters, Manuela and Josefina, most recently provided his personal and spiritual care. The delicate care during the crucial time during his recovery was provided by his daughter, Manuela. He is sadly no longer with us but will forever remain in each of our hearts. Departure visitations will be held at Mount Auburn Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Religious services will be at 6:30 p.m. presided by Pastor Gilberto Bahena, a granddaughter's husband. Final interment will be at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas on Saturday, July 23 where he will be laid to rest by his dear "Toñita".
