Byttow, Norman - Lansing
Byttow, Norman C. A native Chicagoan and current resident of Steger, Illinois, passed away on June 17, 2016 at age 86. Norman was a builder/contractor, founder of Byttow Enterprises, former Chicago firefighter and proud World War II veteran. He leaves behind many beautifully built homes, room additions, cabinetry, millwork and furniture. He passed along his craftsmanship abilities and industrious nature to his children and grandchildren. Loved and cherished husband of Betty Jeanne Byttow (nee Reus) for 57 years; loved and respected father of Mark (Katharine Fioretti) Byttow, Norma Jean Byttow, and Steve (Gabriella Garcia) Byttow; loved and honored grandfather of David Byttow, Jason Byttow, Umile "Tony" Belmonte, Stefano Belmonte and Hannah Byttow; loved and revered family member of nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, friends and business associates. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Marcella Byttow; his brother, Eric Byttow, and sisters, Olga Jasica (nee Byttow) and Trudy Tholander (nee Byttow). Norm was a friend to many, especially fellow members of "The Bombers" (an athletic club of the Roseland community). Camaraderie continues to flourish among surviving club members during weekly Wednesday afternoon lunches at Aurelio's in Homewood, Illinois. Norm attended every lunch he could, right up until his last lunch which he attended with Mark and the guys on Wednesday, June 1st. Take a look around next time you're at Aurelio's. There's a great old photo of the group hanging on the wall in the main dining room. During recent golden years, Norm tapped into his inner artist by creating original, detailed sculptures of eagles which he carved intricately, wood feather by wood feather. He designed and built numerous and varied pieces of art and furniture that will be treasured by all those who loved him dearly. Last year, he was filled with pride, moved to tears and grateful to participate as a WW II veteran honoree on an official Honor Flight to Washington DC. Truly a "man's man", Norm will be remembered for his skillfulness and knowledge as a builder of many things, his woodworking mastery, his tenacity, his resilience, his work ethic and his incredibly strong hands. Private, family reflection following cremation. Remembrance luncheon to be announced. "There is no pillow quite so soft as a father's strong shoulders." - Richard L. Evans
