Elrod, Honorable Richard J. Hon. Richard J. Elrod, Cook County Circuit Judge and dedicated and beloved civic leader and public servant, passed away at the age of 80. Judge Elrod is survived by his wife and very best friend, Marilyn (nee Mann), with whom he spent 58 wonderful years of marriage. He was the loving father of Steven (Donna) Elrod and Audrey (Ron) Lakin; the doting and proud grandfather of Elizabeth (Russell) Mollen, Daniel Elrod, David Lakin and Lauren Lakin; the devoted son of the late Cook County Commissioner Arthur X. Elrod and the late Della Elrod Mulmat; the cherished brother of the late Gloria Sheppard (late Jules) Bliss; the fond brother-in-law of the late Dorothy (Dr. Irwin and Angela Hill) Marcus; the revered uncle of Barry (Hope) Sheppard, Robert (Elizabeth) Sheppard, Judi (John Hamel) Sheppard, Dr. Randall (Katy) Marcus, Sherry (Alan) Leventhal, and Melinda (AC Gonzalez) Marcus; as well as many great-nephews, great-nieces, and three great-great-nieces; and to all who knew him: a wise mentor and dear friend. There will be a memorial service followed by a reception at Temple Am Shalom, 840 Vernon Avenue, Glencoe, Illinois beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. The memorial service will be preceded by a private family burial service at Westlawn Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. The Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL) has established the "Honorable Richard J. Fanning, Adele Arrowsmith Born December 14, 1928 to Francis Donald Arrowsmith and Josephine Pogue Arrowsmith of Short Hills, New Jersey went to her Lord on April 17, 2014. She graduated from the Kent School and completed her education at Vassar College. She married William Brown McIlvaine and raised four children, William, Phelps, Marian and Bruce. Adele made wonderful homes for all her families in Lake Forest, IL, Montreal and Knowlton PQ, Burlington ON, Edwards, CO, Los Angeles, CA and most recently with her husband, Mr. Philip F. N. Fanning in Unionville, PA. A lifelong landscape architect and garden designer, Adele created beautiful places wherever she lived. Adele loved the outdoors and became a skilled fly fisher and hunter at the Blooming Grove Hunting & Fishing Club in Hawley, PA and as a member of the Wausaukee Club of Athelstane, WS. Adele adored Norfolk terriers and had the wonderful little dogs with her throughout her life. Adele was a proud member of the Colonial Dames as well as various local and national garden clubs. She proudly flies the American flag dedicated to her fallen grandson US Navy LTJG William B. McIlvaine III outside her kitchen window. Adele is survived by her husband, Phillip F. N. Fanning of Unionville, PA; her son William McIlvaine and daughter-in-law Stephan and their daughters Leigh and Julia and son Jon; her son Phelps McIlvaine and daughter-in-law Amy and their children, Hanna, Cole and Ava McIlvaine; her daughter Marian Olson and son-in-law Tim Olson and their son Nicholas; and her son Bruce McIlvaine and his daughter Quincy and son Austin. Adele was predeceased by her brother, Donald Arrowsmith and by husbands, Phillip Manker of Chicago, IL and William C. Douglas of Lake Forest, IL.
