S’awright, Señor Wences

4/17/2012
My dad grew up in the Ed Sullivan era, and like many children of the '50s, he absolutely loved Señor Wences and his marvelous ventriloquism.

This love carried on into his adulthood, and when I was a kid, "s'awright" was a catchword around our house just as it was in Señor Wences's shows.

It's been a few years since I thought about Señor Wences, but when I read that today would have been his 116th birthday, I had to check out a few of his routines. I think they're even funnier to me today than they were when I was young.

Thanks for your fantastic talent, Señor Wences. You made it look easy… or, as your puppet Johnny would say, "Easy for you, for me ees very deefeecult!"
