One Stubborn Elephant

4/16/2012
If you read this blog regularly, you probably know that we're fans of the quirky obituary. We kind of collect those obituaries that are different from most – whether they're self-written, or uproariously funny, or touching and heartbreaking. We like to see an obituary that truly captures the spirit of the deceased in a way that a list of survivors and service times can't.

Well, Michael "Flathead" Blanchard did us proud.

Blanchard's obituary isn't as long and detailed as some of the obituaries we've featured in the past, but that doesn't stop it from perfectly describing the man who wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors' orders and raising hell for more than six decades.

As the obituary catches eyes around the country, Blanchard's Guest Book is receiving hundreds of entries from friends and strangers who got a chuckle from his last words (He enjoyed booze, guns, cars and younger women until the day he died) – and maybe inspiration for writing their own unique obituary. There's more to read if you visit the obituary, though take note that it's not entirely family-friendly… and the funeral service won't be either: As the Celebration will contain Adult material we respectfully ask that no children under 18 attend.
