Leonard Loudon Obituary

Loudon, Leonard R. Died December 20, 2013. He was born August 11, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Elsie and Leonard (Bill) Loudon. After graduating from Chicago Vocational High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked in sales for many years before starting Pride Installations, a custom drapery business that he ran until retirement. His favorite job, however, came in retirement, when he worked part time in the scene shop at Candlelight Dinner Playhouse in Summit, where he designed and built props for many productions, including Phantom, Into the Woods, and Little Shop of Horrors. His bushy beard and hair, which turned completely white in his 50s, lent him the air of Hemingway's Old Man in the Sea, a resemblance even more fitting because fishing was one of his biggest loves. He was a gifted artist who was always sketching and sculpting. He enjoyed travel, poetry, the theater, good food and watching the Chicago Bears and White Sox. He will live forever in the hearts and memories of his wife of 57 years, Frances; his children, Kelly, Christopher (Tracy), Gregory (Darcie), Stephen (Laura) and Tracy (David); his grandchildren, Nicole, Kyle, Ava, Quinn and Luc; his sisters, Mildred Steyskal, Lorie Prasek and Elsie Zelms; brother-in-law, Sam Zelms and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life is being planned.
