Leonard Borris Obituary

Borris, Leonard "Red" After 92 magnificent years Leonard Borris, known to all as Red, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and the music of Ella, Duke and Coleman Hawkins. Born in Mt. Clemens Michigan in 1921, Red grew up as a Humboldt Park kid in his beloved Chicago. As a young man he served in Europe and was one of the small number of WWII Army Air Force glider pilots. He married Helen Lehman of Rockville Centre, NY in 1950 after just 5 dates. Together they raised three children and recently celebrated their 62 yearlong romance. Red was in the hospitality business, owning several hotels, bars and restaurants in the Chicago area over the years. He loved and lived the good life and loved his family beyond words. He was one cool cat. The son of immigrants Fanny and Ben Borris and brother of Isabelle Borris, he is survived by his wife, Helen Lehman Borris; children, Bethjoy (Arlene), David (Cari) and Daniel Borris (Alejandra); grandchildren, Benjamin, William, Kate, Isabelle and Sophie Borris. Service Wednesday, 10 AM at Westlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum Chapel, 7801 W. Montrose Avenue, Norridge (east gate entrance), where interment will follow. Dear David, Cari, Helen & Family,

We were so sorry to hear of Red's passing. One of my fondest memories of him is a Silent Auction that we worked together, just him and I, during my career at Hel's. He was so sweet, he bid on a framed picture that I had admired, won the bid and gave it to me. I just thought of him the other day when I was packing it up to move. It ironically was a photo mostly in sepia with one RED accent section. We had it hanging in our TV room next to our one RED wall. What a kind man he was. Our condolences.

Sincerely,

Luke and Dawn Van Ryn
