Fred had a huge impact on my life without ever really knowing it. I was trying to get a job at McDonald's to no avail. I sent a resume directly to him in a scented, lipstick kissed envelope. I guess he read it because when I came for my interview he had hand written at the top of my resume, "this girl has guts, find her a job." I did not meet him personally for two more years. One day he walked into the class at Hamburger U where I was teaching restaurant managers how to read financial statements. He sat down in the front row for awhile and just listened. After class he told me I had a gift for education. I remained at McDonald's until after my sabbatical, but never forgot his words. I eventually went back to school, got the proper credentials and am now Chair of a Business Program at an Illinois University. In his own private way he mentored my entire life. I will miss him greatly!

We extend our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father. We had the privilege of meeting him and your Uncle Don several times as we bought the house your grandparents, Hurley and Claudia, built in 1954 on Wakonda Court in Des Moines. We lived in the house from 1968-1993 and we did visit your grandparents in Marathon, FL. They were so proud of your dad and mother and you girls. They delighted in showing us family pictures. Since both of us are Drake alums, we always knew we had a second tie with your parents and were pleased Drake University benefited from your dad's generosity. Again, our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father.

Dodie and I recently watched home movies of our parents partying back in the 60s. The card tables were up, the martinis stirred, and the ladies were oh-so glamorous. What a trip. The thing I remember most about your dad was his laugh. A smoky chuckle, a slightly suppressed smile and a bright twinkle in his eyes. I can hear the music coming from heaven. Love you guys.
