Cosimo Fasso Obituary

Fasso Jr., Cosimo A. "Augie" Quietly slipped away minutes after midnight October 16, 2013 to join his wife, Mutz, of 63 years, the love of his life, in Heaven. He was a good son, brother, friend, husband, and father. Growing up and residing most of his life in the Lakeview neighborhood where he went to school, he was a good student at Lane Technical High School where he excelled in baseball. He went on to meet and marry his wife, Mutzie Reutell, and raise their two daughters, Debbie and Terrie. He was always a patriotic man, very proud to be a Veteran of the Army who enlisted out of high school and served faithfully at the end of WWII. He was recalled to 2 years of service in the Korean War right after being married. A loving, honest, quiet, well mannered, devout Catholic who remained a loyal St. Andrew parishioner and usher until he moved away. A strong believer in hard work, family togetherness, and constant help to others. He was the wind beneath many wings. His life career was mostly in the printing industry. A faithful employee of the Argus Press from the Lakeview neighborhood, even following them when they moved to the far suburbs, he retired as an esteemed plate maker and photo engraver; instilling the art of photography in his daughter, Terrie, and passing it on to granddaughter, Regina. Because of his strong love of life and never believing "in quitting" he fought against multiple critical medical conditions his whole life. His heart and spirit believed this was a gift from God. He was proud to be the patriarch of five generations, and one of the last family "old timers". He was happy to spend the time with the multi- generations of the ones he loved. Survived by his loving daughters, Deborah Hasselbrink and Teresa Fasso-Witvoet; granddaughter, Regina (Mathew) Aniolowski; great-granddaughter, Abigael; father-in-law to Wayne Hasselbrink and Peter J. Witvoet (deceased); beloved brother to Dolores (William Welker, deceased) Ruth Ann (Hank) Knorr, Virginia Lynn Gaynor (Ken, deceased), Diana Lynn (Steve) Dospod.Preceded in death by a sister, Nancy (Ted Sr.) Droz. The greatest joy of his life was the birth of his great-granddaughter, Abbie. Prior to that, Uncle Augie became a great-uncle with Ted Jrs. daughters, Andrea and Kelly. As the generations grew he also became a great-uncle to, Heather, Spencer, Jeremy, Alyssa, Ashley, Alexis, Austin, Logan and Kinsey, Max, Sophia and Dillon. Great-great uncle to Izaiah. Another great joy in "Papa's" life was when he became a great-uncle once again with the birth of Susan's triplets, David, Billy and Chuck, almost eighteen years ago. With the birth of Larry and Dixie's great-grandchildren, Uncle Augie became a great-great-uncle to Jude, Zack, Jake and Violet. Like a grandpa to Anthony Alcala (Emily), Sebastian and Brianna; also to Nicolaas (Tiger) and Leslie (Dolly) Patrick Wheatley. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and his Godchildren, Michael (Debbie) Evensen, Sandra (Brian) Supancic, William Thurm, and Ted (Kim) Droz, Jr. Augie will also be greatly missed by many close friends and neighbors. Augie was a faithful lifelong White Sox fan since a small boy, and win or lose he was true to his Chicago Bears until the very end. Forever thankful to his "car buddies", Toni, Larry, and Big Bill who often made his favorite pastime "going out to eat" possible. Services will be held Saturday, October 19, lying in state at Queen of Angels Church, 2330 W. Sunnyside, Chicago from 9:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove. For info., 773-478·5800. Please omit flowers.
