Flynn, Joseph Michael 90, of Naples, Florida, died September 16, 2013. Joe was born April 12, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Michael and Mary Florence Flynn. Joe served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 aboard the U.S.S. Prometheus during World War II. He was also a pipe fitter for the city of Chicago and a member of Union Local 597 for 73 years. In 1947, Joe married the love of his life, the late Corinne C. Dempsey. They lived in the Mount Greenwood area of Chicago for over 30 years until he retired and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1985. Joe enjoyed golfing and was an avid reader. He also greatly enjoyed sports, and every day he highlighted the sporting events in TV Guide that he would watch. He loved them all. His favorite treats were ice cream bars, chocolate turtles, and McDonald's milk shakes. His favorite pet was little Louie, a Yorkshire terrier, and Joe looked forward to seeing him first thing every morning and last thing every night. From the year 2000 on, Joe was in the loving care of his daughter, Barbara, and son-in-law, Bill Malone. Joe lived in various places in Florida, sometimes in a shared home with his oldest son, Michael, and even returned for a few years to the south suburbs of Chicago. These 13 years were wonderful times, filled with love, laughter, and FUN. After being a creature of habit for so long, Joe found himself going with the flow and not sweating the small stuff, and every day was an adventure. Joe is preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Scallon, and his brother, Gene Flynn. Joe is survived by his sister, Marion Vandevier; his three children, sons Michael and Thomas Flynn and his daughter, Barbara Malone (Bill); his nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Richard, Thomas, Jamieson, Jillian,Tamarnine, Kelly, Carrie and Brian; and his 9 great-grandchildren. He was respected and loved by Susan Flynn and Thomas Balsewich. He had an amazing and unforgettable smile. Visitation Sunday 5-8pm. Funeral Monday 11am at Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home 10727 S.
