Death was a thief.
I was fortunate to work with Bill for many years on professional responsibility matters at our law firm. He carried a heavy burden in that job, but was big enough to bear the load. How he kept his sense of humor, I will never know.. but he did. On hearing the news of his passing, all I could think of were a few lines from an Edwin Markham poem:
"As when a lordly cedar, green with boughs,
Goes down with a great shout upon the hills,
And leaves a lonesome place against the sky."

I knew Bill when he was Chair of the Board of Sacred Heart Schoos--I served as a Trustee under his leadership. He was a kind, gentle, smart leader. His dedication to Sacred Heart was apparent and valued . He will be missed by so many.

To the Campbell family:
I am saddened to hear the news about Bill's death. Bill and your family are my thoughts and prayers. Bill was a great and courageous Chair of the Sheridan Road (Sacred Heart Schools) Board of Trustees. Bill was the right person, at the right time, to lead change that set the stage for the vast growth of the schools at Sheridan Road. There is a direct correlation between Bill's leadership role and the current prosperity of the schools. It was a privilege and honor to serve with him. He truly modeled a infectious passion for and commitment to the mission of the Sacred Heart Schools. A commitment prevents me from being at the Mass on Monday, but I will remember Bill, and your entire family, in my prayers.
