To all the Aherns:

My heart and prayers go out to you all with your dad's passing. I have known all of you for some 20 plus years and I will miss your dad, as your family has been a second family of sorts to me. I will remember him presiding over the Turkey Bowl (the Honorable Gerald Ahern), helping my family get through my dad's death with Xmas morning breakfasts, having to listen to his Sox smack (and the mini van-at least he didn't hide in the bathroom when it was cold), and finally holding court at Prairie Manor and telling my mom to shush because she talked too much (I agree with him, but it didn't work). What a life and legacy and I hope you all will celebrate it and the fact that he is at peace with your mom now. God bless you all.

Sorry to hear about Gerry's death. He was a Mundelein classmate of mine for a while. In those days, we had assigned, alphabetical seating in Philosophy class. Since he & I both had last names starting with "A", we saw a good deal of one another. May he rest in peace. I will say Mass for the repose of his soul.
