Dear Fitzgerald Family,
I was so sorry to hear of the John's passing. I was a medical student at Loyola Medical School, and he was my first mentor when I rotated at St. Francis in my internal medicine clerkship in 1975. I have always tried to emulate John's caring and dedication to patients. The medical community has lost a great physician and teacher.

I am so sorry I will not be able to be with you and your family Jan. Know that you are all in my heart, prayers and thoughts. My tears of sorrow are also filled with joy as I think of our summers together so many years ago. As cousins we shared those days of our youth and forged a bond that all the years and distance could not take away. He was such a great man who touched so many and made the world a better place. I know he leaves a hole in all of your hearts, as his death leaves a hole in the world. I love you all. Bob

To Jan and his daughters, Dr. Fitzgerald was with me and stayed with me, until my wife was out of surgery during a difficult medical procedure. He was a source of great comfort during a difficult time.

To Jan and all the daughters,
John was a classmate, fellow golfer, parent, and a caring physician. Always with a smile even the last times I saw him with his family and caregivers.Currently my wife and I are on Hilton Head Island where summers were spent with both our families over 30 years ago. These past months exemplified your love for your husband and father.
