John Brown Obituary

Brown Jr., John F. Formerly of Pelham, GA passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 9:40 p.m. John was born in Pelham, GA on Sunday, February 9, 1936. John attended High School at Mitchell County Training School where he was a star athlete and captain of his basketball team. After graduation he coached the Mitchell County Training High School Basketball Team. He worked in several positions until he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country and was Honorably Discharged in 1957. John relocated to Chicago, IL where he met and married the love of his life, Lee L. Brown, former Principal of Shoop Academy, Regional Superintendent, and Area Instructional Officer of the Chicago Public Schools. They had two wonderful children, Venus DeShawn and John III who produced six beautiful grandchildren. Two of his grandchildren, George Anthony Bennett Jr. (Tony) and Branden Lee Bennett (Lee) preceded him in death. John was a hard worker and a good provider. He held several jobs before he decided at the urging of his wife to start his own painting and decorating business. John Brown's Decorating Service proved to be very lucrative and successful. He was a family man who always put his family first. John was a people person who did not meet any strangers. He would strike up a conversation with anyone and make them laugh. He was witty, friendly, and he had a great sense of humor. He was kind, loving, supportive, and forgiving. John was a devoted husband, proud father, caring grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a country man with a big heart who loved people and enjoyed his life to the fullest. John is survived by Lee, his wife of 42 years; three children, daughter, Venus DeShawn DeLoach (Glenn); sons, John F. Brown III (Valerie), and Gregory West; two sisters, Lillian Creah of Detroit, MI, and Mary Brown of New York, NY; one aunt, Willie Mae Alexander of Pelham, GA; seven grandchildren, Marcie Leigh DeLoach, Glenn Virgil DeLoach II, Jayla DeShawn Brown, John F. Brown, IV, Gregory West, Jr., Addie Zavala and Samaura Brown; two great-grandchildren, Dayrien Zavala and Jayden Zavala; two sisters-in-law, Mary Barney and Ida Brown; a special cousin, Juanita Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be held at Leak and Sons Funeral Chapel, 18400 South Pulaski Rd, in Country Club Hills, IL 60478. Wake on Tuesday, February 5th from 5-6p.m. Funeral services will be from 6-7pm. Repast immediately following services. Meeting at funeral home prior to interment Wednesday, February 6th, 12:00 noon at Lincoln Cemetery.
