Dear Katelyn,
I had dinner in the Walnut Room this week and thought of our time there for the Easter egg hunt luncheon. Your mother dressed you in a beautiful Easter dress and you looked so pretty. It was a great day and I have that memory of you always. Everyone still suffers over your passing, especially your parents and Mickey. I believe you were delivered straight into God's loving hands that fateful day. I'd like to think that you are with Lola Fele. Sending you love and big hugs, for Lola Fele, too. We miss you both. You would have done great things in law enforcement. Love, Godmother Nancy

To the Parents of Katelyn,
My deepest condolences for the loss of your beautiful daughter.
We are also parents of child with a severe food allergy. Our son, Cruz, went into anaphylactic shock at the age of 2 after eating banana walnut muffins we had baked.
Its been 8 years since this happened and weve always had Katelyn in our hearts since. Katelyns passing is what saved Cruzs life.
A few months prior to my sons reaction, my sister, whos son also attended Edison, was telling our family about the tragedy that happened.
Months later, when my son went into anaphylactic shock, Katelyn was the first thing that came to my mind. She is the reason I called 911. Katelyn is the reason our son is alive.
Your beautiful daughter will forever be remembered and your family will forever be in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Rebecca & Craig Sweeney

Hey, Katelyn. It's been a while. I miss you. A lot. I still think about those old Tae Kwon Do days together. Those were fun times. Anyways, I just wanted to say something because I never really got a chance to 6 years ago. Your life was cut much too short, and you deserve to be with us here today. But you're in a better place now. Rest in peace. We love you.

I'm sorry I never found this site before, but my deepest condolences go out to her family. I didn't know her that much, but I knew she was a very good person, and I will always remember her death as the darkest day of my time at Edison. Now that I am older, and understand the pain of death more, I grieve and pray for her every day. I have since graduated from Edison, and now, in Loyola Academy, I pray for her in theology. No person should ever have to go through this loss. Since her death, Edison has prohibited any peanut products in the school. I sincerely hope no more deaths occur at that school. We have flowers planted outside the school in her honor, and we remember her every year at graduation. I was only a 5th grader at the time, and though I grieved, I didn't really understand. But now, whenever I think of it, the emotional pain is crushing. She didn't deserve it. Nobody should have had to live through that moment.
All my blessings go to you, Katelyn, and may a new life await you.
My sincerest regards,
~R~

Mike and family, I was stunned watching the news last night and seeing the story of your beloved Katelyn. I remember my days at Assumption church at the 7:30 mass at my little friend Katelyn coming to me at the sign of peace. Mike congratulations on the new law so that other people don't have to feel your pain. Katelyn is getting daily hugs from Fr. John in heaven.

Mike, Malu & Mickey, though it has been many many years, my heart broke when on the channel 9 news tonight I saw a picture of a dad & his daughter, that i immediately recognized as Mike and Katelyn, and heard of your unimaginable tragedy. I remember Katelyn being so sweet, so precocious and so mature when I worked with you and your family all those years ago...Mickey was about 3, so she must have been about 5

Katelyn was so sweet and kind and had so many friends. I had never really talked to her at school, but I regret it because at her in-school memorial, I was so sad and realized she can't come back so I could say hello again. She had a great sense of humour from what I've heard and was just simply a great person. I miss Katelyn... we all should. <3

Dear Malou, Mike, and Mickey,
We are so very sad about Katelyn's sudden passing. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. We remember Katelyn fondly. Whenever we visited school or chaperoned a field trip, she always welcomed us with a cheerful greeting and sweet smile. Her poise and self-confidence impressed us over the years we knew her. And Katelyn’s positive attitude was refreshing. Whether stuck in traffic on a school bus, or just dutifully manning her post at the Science Fair for a long stretch, Katelyn would say something upbeat to brighten everyone’s spirits. What a wonderful world it would be if everybody were like that! Katelyn was an ambassador of good will for your family, her 7th grade class and Edison school. She will be deeply missed by many.
We admire and hope for your strength, and we’ll keep your family in our prayers. Thank you for sharing your lovely daughter with us.

Over and over, we find it difficult to understand the sense behind an untimely death, especially that of a dear, young, beautiful person. We reach a point where we rebelliously question God's logic in all these. And we don't usually get a satisfactory answer, or at least that's how we perceive it.
I say it again, in due time all things must pass. The wounds will heal, but life will never be the same again. Tragic, but we only have to trust God's supreme judgment. It is, after all, our best comfort.
Peace.

The Broken Chain
We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
your always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
